The Goodnews River

Perfectly named, The Goodnews River is our most recent addition to our schedule! Last year we were generously awarded a 10 year permit with the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge, a wide variety of start dates on this highly sought after river. As our permit awards us dates in blocks, we have the flexibility to create small, custom group trips.

Excellent wade fishing throughout the week on the Goodnews River.

We primarily run the North Fork which flows from the scenic Goodnews Lake, surrounded by the rugged peaks of the Ahklun Mountains. The Goodnews River is one of our most scenic rivers we run. This region was once a massive volcanic caldera, and evidence of this is seen as we float down the river. Alpine ridge lines, with huge expanses of tundra span for days at a time as we float and fish down the river. We go through a variety of canyon sections, waterfalls flow from the high alpine down to the river. There is quite a bit of structure in the river, which makes for great rainbow fishing. We love the spectacular flight from Dillingham. Our skillful bush pilot navigates through a corridor of Alpine lakes and peaks. On our pick-up, he meets us at our camp on a riverside beach, and takes us along the magnificent coast line of Goodnews Bay, Togiak Bay, and Bristol Bay.

We like starting our season out with the Goodnews, with trips starting in June and July. Here is a great slide show we just posted on youtube for you to enjoy!
